Paul Robert Schmidt age 76 of Bloomington, IL passed away at 4:56 PM on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the chapel at St. John’s Lutheran Church 1617 E. Emerson St Bloomington, IL. Pastor Harold Skillrud will be officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM-2:00 PM Saturday at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL. Private inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate at the Children’s Hospital, Peoria, IL or Humane Society of Central Illinois 423 N. Kays Drive, Normal IL. Arrangements are being handled by Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL.

Paul was born January 18, 1941 in Springfield, IL the son of Paul Louis and Lorraine Birnbaum Schmidt. He married Janenne Fancher on March 18, 1967 in Peoria, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 2 sons, Paul Andrew Schmidt, Chicago, IL, Matthew Ryan (Jenny) Schmidt, Montgomery, IL, 3 grandchildren, Liam, Henry and Colton Schmidt, Montgomery, IL, and 1 sister, Janet (David) Artz, Lincoln, NE.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents.

Paul graduated from Illinois State University, Normal, IL with master’s degree. He taught at Freeport High School for a brief time then later went to work at State Farm Insurance Company as Health Underwriter where he worked for many years. Paul was a model train enthusiast. He enjoyed long family car trips to scenic areas. He enjoyed photography and spending time with his family. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be missed by all who knew him.
